Voodoo who? Velvet 25 Bistro to re-open as lounge

Velvet 25 Bistro, the fine dining spot that served up the cucumber martinis and espresso sorbet, will re-open as a lounge and bar on Granby Street. Filling the Voodoo Rouge void, the larger Velvet lounge will be another late night option for Granby street-goers. Think drinks and deejays.

The bistro closed its Colley Avenue north doors around Thanksgiving.

Relative Theory with refined wrinkles

The owners of the Granby Street music store and all-ages showcase will be introducing another live music outlet. The Boot Italian restaurant, which skillfully replaced the fish & chips joint in the old Cafe Rosso, has acquired its live music permit recently. Their corner tables will be moved to open up as a stage space. Expect shows at 21st Street spot in February.

The restaurant formerly known as Scotty Quixx

Scotty Quixx appears to have a new SQX logo that looks similar to what's emblazoned on Superman's chest. In this age of txt msging and 20somethings referring to California Pizza Kitchen as CPK, no one should be surprised.Tonight, SQX will be hosting a Jagermeister Party beginning at 9:30 p.m. with the Jager girls and drink specials. Door prizes promised every 15 minutes.

More downtown Norfolk diner eats

On Feb. 1, Grace Street Grill will open just a jaunt from Chrysler Museum. The sandwich and sub shop will offer beer, wine, homemade desserts AND TV viewing. Download a coupon here for the 217 Grace Street spot.

Restaurant week

Those who love to dine out and those who love to dine on a dime can join tables for the next week and a half. It's Virginia Beach Restaurant Week which ends just as Norfolk Restaurant Week begins Sunday.
