Harry Minium covers Norfolk City Hall. His responsibilities include city government, the city’s General Assembly delegation, economic development and neighborhood issues. He also covered the General Assembly two of the last three sessions.

Harry is a Norfolk native and a 1971 graduate of Norview High School, where he lettered in four sports. He has a bachelor of arts degree in English from Old Dominion University and a master’s degree in mass communications from Virginia Commonwealth University. He has worked for The Virginian-Pilot for 30 years, the first 24 as a sports writer. He was an assistant sports editor for two years and led the newspaper’s coverage of Norfolk’s three efforts to attract major professional sports. He began covering city hall in 2003.

Minium began his career at the Richmond News Leader in 1978 before joining The Virginian-Pilot in 1979. Harry won The Pilot’s Slover award for excellence in sports reporting in 1999 and finished second five times. In 2003, he won the newspaper’s Joyce Ingram Leadership Award. He has won six Virginia Press Association awards and one national sports writing award from the Associated Press.

Harry lives in Norfolk with his wife, Ellen.
