A Portsmouth native, Janie looks for stories about efforts to revitalize the city, whether it’s building museums and promoting tourism or redeveloping old communities and business districts.
She started working for The Ledger Star as an editorial assistant more than 30 years ago, before it merged with The Virginian-Pilot. She later became a staff writer and has always covered Portsmouth.
