Janie Bryant is a Portsmouth general assignment reporter, who writes about culture, people, neighborhoods and history.

A Portsmouth native, Janie looks for stories about efforts to revitalize the city, from building museums and promoting tourism to redeveloping old communities and business districts.

She started working for The Ledger Star as an editorial assistant almost 30 years ago, before it merged with The Virginian-Pilot. She later became a staff writer and has always covered Portsmouth.
