Jen McCaffery reports on public safety in Portsmouth, which includes coverage of police and the courts.
Jen began her reporting career covering caviar smugglers in New York City. From there, she made the natural transition to Southwest Virginia, where she covered the moonshine pipeline and the exploits of coon hunters as federal courts reporter for The Roanoke Times. She then moved on to cover stories on welfare reform and the right of conscience in medicine as the paper’s health and families reporter. Jen has also worked as a stringer for The New York Times.
She graduated from College of the Holy Cross and the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. She began covering public safety in Portsmouth for the Virginian-Pilot on Nov. 6, 2006.
