John Warren writes the Pilot Warrior column. In the column, readers write about things that can be fixed with the help of public officials. It may involve neighborhood flooding, an abandoned house in need of razing or a too-bushy bush that keeps you from being able to safely execute a left turn out of your neighborhood. John contacts the city to see if and when the problem can be resolved.
John Warren’s newspaper career started at 12 in Bradford, Pa., as a paperboy for The Olean News-Herald. His first job INSIDE a newspaper building came several years later. During 17 years writing for newspapers, he made many stops in Virginia – Martinsville, Danville, Waynesboro, Roanoke and Fincastle (the town that time forgot). He came to The Pilot in January 1999 and began writing the Road Warrior column in September 1999. Road Warrior was a question and answer column about transportation issues. In March 2005, Road Warrior evolved into Pilot Warrior, with a focus on a broad spectrum of community issues. John lives in Suffolk, is married to the former Heidi Greene, and they have four children: Hillary, Hope, Zoe and Zachary.
