Kerry produces new media content for PilotOnline.com, HamptonRoads.com and HamptonRoads.tv, including video, interactive formats.
A lifelong journalist, he has been involved exclusive with online news since 2001, which he was appointed The Virginian-Pilot's first online news coordinator, whose responsibility it was to promote and facilitate the delivery of Pilot news and features on the newspaper's Web sites.
Our online news sites and breaking news e-mail systems give The Pilot the ability to report local news stories first, before television, radio and other online media -- no longer tied to the once-a-day print cycle. We can reach our readers with important news stories 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Pilot wants to continue to be the major provider of news and information to the people of Hampton Roads, not just through print media, but via any delivery method our customers find convenient. This requires that we be proficient in interactive media, digital video, television, audio and other new media.
The newsroom's goal is to report every story first and in the media that will be of most use to our readers. It's up to the news online coordinator to help make that happen.
Kerry is a 1967 graduate of the School of Journalism at the Univeristy of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has spent nearly 40 years in newspaper newsrooms -- as a reporter, photographer, copy editor, editor of several rural weeklies, as state editor of The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C., and editor of The Daily Progress in Charlottesville.
Since joining the staff of The Virginian-Pilot in 1983, he served as city editor in Virginia Beach, public editor and city editor in Chesapeake before becoming news online coordinator in 2001.
Sipe is married and is the father of two sons. He lives in Virginia Beach.
