Kevin Armstrong is editor of The Clipper, the community news section of The Virginian-Pilot for Chesapeake readers

Kevin has spent his entire 22-year career involved in local news coverage in South Hampton Roads.

He arrived here after graduating from the University of Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. He previously studied for two years at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla.

Kevin was first hired as a layout editor on the Tab Desk in Norfolk, which was responsible for designing all of the Pilot’s community news sections. Six months later he moved to the Virginia Beach office and worked as a copy editor, assistant city editor and night city editor. He followed up with stints as city editor in Chesapeake, then Portsmouth and later back to Virginia Beach between 1989 and 2001.

He lives in the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach with Marcy, his wife of 22 years. They have three children: Amanda, 21; Ashley, 19; and Tyler, 15. Marcy is elementary principal of Atlantic Shores Christian School in Virginia Beach.

Kevin is a longtime member of Atlantic Shores Baptist Church, where he teaches a weekly Sunday school class and is lay leader of the church’s men’s ministry. His son, Tyler, has Down syndrome, leading Armstrong to take an active role in the Tidewater Down Syndrome Association and Special Olympics.

Kevin began serving as an adjunct professor of journalism at Regent University in the fall of 2005, teaching graduate students in the School of Communication and the Arts. He continues to teach a reporting and writing course there.

He is an avid fan and follower of the University of Oklahoma Sooners football team, although he never attended the school. Armstrong’s love of OU stems from the fact he was born in Tulsa, and his love of college football was nurtured while growing up in Columbus, Ohio.
