Lauren King is an online reporter working in Norfolk.

She came to The Virginian-Pilot in April 2003 to work as a northeastern North Carolina reporter, based in the Elizabeth City bureau. Her regional beat primarily covered Chowan, Perquimans and Pasquotank counties, which includes Elizabeth City. She wrote stories in every category and frequently wrote about the happenings in counties farther west. 

Prior to working for The Pilot, she worked for three years at the Carroll County Times, in Westminster, Md., as its state and county government reporter and also served a Landmark Communications fellowship at the Greensboro News & Record.

In 2000, she earned a master's degree in journalism from Syracuse University and interned at the Post-Standard in Syracuse, N.Y. She graduated from the University of Arizona in 1999 with a political science degree.
