Lauren King is a reporter working in Norfolk. She covers issues and events in Virginia and North Carolina, with an emphasis on breaking news.
She came to The Virginian-Pilot in April 2003 to work as a northeastern North Carolina reporter, based in the Elizabeth City bureau. Her six-county regional beat primarily covered Chowan, Perquimans and Pasquotank counties.
Prior to The Pilot, she worked for three years at the Carroll County Times, in Westminster, Md., as its state and county government reporter. She also served a Landmark Communications fellowship at the Greensboro News & Record in North Carolina.
In 2000, she earned a master's degree in journalism from Syracuse University and interned at the (Syracuse) Post-Standard in New York. She graduated from the University of Arizona in 1999 with a political science degree.
