Lauren King is a northeastern North Carolina reporter who works in the Elizabeth City bureau. Her regional beat primarily covers Chowan, Perquimans and Pasquotank counties, which includes Elizabeth City. She writes stories in every category and frequently writes about the happenings in counties farther west.

She came to The Virginian-Pilot in April 2003 from Westminster, Md. There she worked at the Carroll County Times for three years as its state and county government reporter and also served a Landmark Communications fellowship at the Greensboro News & Record.

Prior to her work in Maryland, she earned a master's degree in journalism from Syracuse University and interned at the Post-Standard in Syracuse, N.Y. She graduated from the University of Arizona in 1999 with a political science degree.

She lives and works in Elizabeth City.
