Matthew Bowers is an assistant editor for the Virginia Beach team.
Since coming to the Pilot from a small Maryland newspaper in 1985, Matt also has covered local schools and state education issues, colleges, public safety, and family and children’s issues. He most recently covered courts in Chesapeake.
A Maryland native, he earned a bachelor's degree in economics and sociology from Western Maryland College, now McDaniel College, in 1977, and a law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1982. The art of making square cuts remans an elusive goal as he tries to teach himself woodworking.
He and his wife, a teacher and education consultant, live in Virginia Beach. Their daughter is a graphic designer married to a videographer.
