Michelle Washington covers courts in the city of Norfolk.

She has worked for The Virginian-Pilot since 2003. Michelle has been a reporter since graduating from Washington and Lee University in 1994. She covered crime and courts for two years at the Danville Register & Bee and then spent about seven years covering a variety of topics, including courts, at The Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer. She won press association awards for her work while in Fayetteville and has been honored for her work in Norfolk on drunken-driving and the role of DNA testing in uncovering wrongful convictions.

Michelle is from Sayre, Pa. She lives in Norfolk with her husband.
