As editorial assistant, Mike Keech performs a variety of duties in support of the Sports department.

Mike is a member of the high school sports staff whose coverage areas include football, volleyball, swimming and softball. In addition to covering those sports, he is responsible for regular inside phone duty, where he takes hundreds of live game results and writes roundups of all high school sports throughout the school year. His inside responsibility includes rounding up local college results as well. He also writes a weekly college notebook that runs Sundays from September through May covering the performances of graduates from South Hampton Roads high schools in colleges around the nation.

Mike was a sports writer for the Newport News Daily Press for nearly 20 years, covering everything from Atlantic Coast Conference sports to professional teams to high school sports.

He is the brother of Larry Keech, who recently retired from Landmark’s Greensboro, N.C. paper after 36 years of service as a sportswriter and editor.
