Rich Radford has been a staff writer for the sports staff of The Virginian-Pilot since 1987 and has held a variety of beats, ranging from high schools to the pros. His primary beats are Old Dominion University basketball and the Norfolk Tides.

Rich, 42, came to The Virginian-Pilot after two years at The Daily Press in Newport News. He began professionally as an intern at The Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Married for 15 years, Radford and his wife Laurie live in Norfolk and have two boys, Kevin, 11, and Alex, 9. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching youth baseball and basketball.

A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, Radford was the first scholarship golfer at VCU and was named the Outstanding Graduate in Journalism in 1985. He is a Richmond native and attended Meadowbrook High School.
