Roger Chesley writes editorials and a weekly column for The Virginian-Pilot. He’s also responsible for picking out editorial cartoons and preparing the op-ed page.
Roger was born and raised in Washington, D.C., and attended parochial schools there. He graduated from Howard University with a B.A., magna cum laude, in print journalism in 1981. Before starting his current job at The Pilot in 2000, he worked as a reporter and editor in Newport News, Detroit and Cherry Hill, N.J. He’s won several local and state awards, primarily for crime and political coverage.
His wife, Michele, is a deputy managing editor at The Pilot. They have three “very smart, very beautiful” children.
