Scott Harper covers environmental issues for The Virginian-Pilot.

Scott has held his current assignment for The Pilot since 1995. Before then, he wrote about the environment and city government at the Houston Post, and prior to that, the Chesapeake Bay and the U.S. Naval Academy at The Capital newspaper in Annapolis, Md., where he was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 1991.

He graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, in 1984 with degrees in history and political science. He attended graduate school at the London School of Economics in 1985, studying international history. He also studied environmental architecture at the University of Virginia under a fellowship awarded in 1995.

He is married with three children and lives in Norfolk.
