Victoria Hecht is editor of Home, The Virginian-Pilot's real estate/home improvement section.
After graduating from Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C., where she was a reporter for the campus newspaper and news director of the radio station, Victoria worked at the Independent-Messenger in Emporia and the Brunswick Times-Gazette in neighboring Brunswick County.
In 1993 she became editor of three community weeklies: The Virginia Beach Sun, Chesapeake Post and Portsmouth Times, guiding every aspect of the news operation - from reporting to photography to editing and layout - and wrote a weekly column, Off the Cuff.
Victoria joined the Beacon in 2000, working as the editor of the Princess Anne, Oceanfront and Lynnhaven sections of Virginia Beach, and also continued to write features. She was named editor of The Beacon in 2003. Her duties include overall responsibility of Beacon news coverage.
In April, Victoria fulfilled a longtime dream of covering everything that is "home" by becoming editor of the Saturday Home section.
A Norfolk native, Victoria is a graduate of The Williams School and Norfolk Collegiate. She and her husband, Evan, enjoy entertaining, traveling, antique hunting, home restoration projects, and adventures with their son and daughter. Victoria also enjoys reading, decorating and scrapbooking.
