The Buzz: Truth in advertising

Posted to: Sports

DUKE POSTED ITS football head coaching vacancy on the university's human resources Web site this past week before hiring David Cutcliffe away from Vanderbilt.

The job description included a list of expectations but overlooked the most important qualification: Must have a high tolerance for losing.

Reader's digest

The Mitchell Report turned out to be like a Chinese buffet: theoretically appetizing but leaving you feeling bloated and ultimately unsatisfied.

Blocking it out

Philadelphia 76ers center Samuel Dalembert blocked nine shots in a win against the Timberwolves on Wednesday.

The Buzz hasn't seen that many rejections since the last time we sent out our résumé.

 Food for thought

Redskins cornerback Fred Smoot is hoping to corner the market on snacks.

He's endorsing an energy bar called Smack. Guess you could say that, when he plugs the product, he'll be talkin' Smack?

It's love-all

The Buzz saw that former tennis player Chris Evert is planning to add another title to her collection: Mrs. Greg Norman. Evert and the golfer are engaged.

Sounds like Norman, who is recently divorced, made a great approach.

Model behavior

French model Alexandra Paressant alleged that she and San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker had an affair after he married Eva Longoria - even claiming she first met him during the wedding.

Right now, she's dishing even better than Parker.

Listen up

Baltimore Ravens tight end Daniel Wilcox revealed to Edward Lee of the Baltimore Sun that he is the team's designated music man, sharing his 11,000-tune library with fellow players - for a fee.

Likely removed from this season's song list at some point during Baltimore's long losing skid: "We Are the Champions" by Queen.

Kicking in

Former NFL kicker Norm Johnson rescued a woman trapped in an overturned car in Silverdale, Wash., last week. Johnson is what The Buzz calls an uprights citizen.

 Child's play

No kidding: The L.A. Sparks announced Thursday that Lisa Leslie will return for the 2008 season.

Leslie sat out last year after giving birth, moving from driving the lane and crashing the boards to driving with a "Baby on Board" sign. The 2006 WNBA MVP will switch from carrying her tyke to again carrying the league.
