Light rail
I have ridden toe Lt RAil several times just for fun. I was amased at how it came within walking distance to downtown business. It was as close as parking garages. Its a nice smooth ride in confortable spacious seating. Its something the council got right. Its a shame the greedy Beach didn't get on the band wagon and extent it to the Ocean front. I think extending it to ODU and the Navy Base would make it safer for collese students and a nice ride for those working at the base.A person could relax and read the paper while going to work. and not fight the traffic on the interstate. Good Job Norfolk
Light Rail extension
It has to go to the airport but also needs to go to ODU
Extend down Hampton blvd by ODU to the navy base and also, extend from Newtown rd to the airport and continue to the navy base and create a loop
LT Rail
It seems to me that most of the people that work for a living are going to one to the many bases we have in this area. I would think one of the first lines would go to relieve the commuter traffic to one of those destinations. But again the brilliance of city government shines thru.

Time to decrease the subsidized corporate welfare socialist...
boondogle that is the oil industry with alternate forms of energy and transportation.
If the oil industry wasn't sucking up tax dollars by the millions with big business corporate welfare legislation enacted by the politicians, Republicans and Democrats (but we all know mostly by which paRty), we would be shocked by the cost of a gallon of gas and Big Oil would go nuts as their multi billion dollar profits dwindled to what the market actually dictated through supply and demand. You know, that whole Gubment stay out of our business laissez faire capitalism which they preach out the side of their mouths while their hands rake in millions in corporate welfare from Federal and State Governments.
Now if Virginia Beach will get with the program...
I could possibly ride this thing to and from work, depending on the Virginia Beach stations, and save 60 dollars a week in gas.
Light rail
Can you imagine Greater Washington DC without the Metro ? Or San Francisco without the BART ? Or Dublin , Ireland without light rail ? Or a thousand other places that have been improved by using light rail in conjunction the all other modes ? In all of these examples the system started with a basic backbone with spokes added as needed.
If not light rail , what ? HOV ? Elevated highways with nowhere to park ? What ?
Norfolk
I cant believe ANY sane person could even begin to compare Norfolk to San Francisco or any other large city, you left out New York. Get real Norfolk is NOT a major metropolis and it never will be,if you love the idea of high dense living and big city life, then MOVE to a big city.
hmmm
7100 riders every day......right, hold your breath
If you don't like it, then sit in your pickup truck in gridlock
If you don't like the light rail system, then just sit in the traffic listening to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity lecture middle income Americans on why we can't afford unemployment benefits for average Americans who have paid their federal unemployment taxes...but somehow we can afford huge tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans (not that Rush Limbuagh or Sean Hannity have more money than the rest of us)and expensive wars that we're winning but never can seem to win them well enough to leave.
