Michael Vick stars in PETA's holiday e-card

Posted to: Dogfighting News

NORFOLK, Va. - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has created a holiday e-card featuring former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, who is serving a 23-month federal sentence for a dogfighting conspiracy.

Vick and three co-defendants raised pit bulls and trained them for fighting at a house Vick owned in rural Surry County. Several dogs that didn't perform well in test fights were executed.

In the card, a cartoon version of Vick paces across a prison yard inside a snow globe as gun-toting guards and their barking dogs keep watch. He's wearing an orange prison jumpsuit and football helmet and dragging a ball and chain.

When a visitor to PETA's Web site shakes the snow globe by dragging a mouse, Vick bounces around and crashes against the globe's dome as a commentator announces, "They got to the quarterback's blind side there. He never had a chance."

"We're having a bit of fun, but prison is no lark and we're hoping that Michael will use his time behind bars this holiday season to think about goodwill and peace for all," PETA assistant director Dan Shannon said in a statement Tuesday.

Other famous people getting the snow-globe treatment include Dick Cheney, Kate Moss and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

Lorax

Just as Lorax speaks for the trees becasue no other will; who would you suppose is to speak for the animals? No one is to blame except Vick. Add it up folks. Young, rich, and famous=target. So, if you were in his position would you have put yourself in this position? I would not have been in any position that could have tied me to anything that could bring my house tumbling down. Sports figures are paid big bucks to be the spoke person or the face of a cause. Mr. Vick CHOSE via his actions to become the most famous face associated with dog fighting. After reading many of the letters lambasting Peta for what they do, the more I believe they are needed in this world.

Support PETA Not?

It's not the fact of the tasteless e-card, its the fact that the man is trying to make peace and they(PETA) continues to cause drama. Yeah there were animals involved but the man has children out there that have to see that mess. If I were Michael Vick I would say to heck with PETA and me helping them out.

OK. I admit it's pretty tasteless.

And so is PETA. But get a life folks. It's still just humor. And often that's just a point of view. Larry the Cable Guy makes jokes about retarded folks. Robin Williams makes jokes about lesbians women with comfortable shoes. Mel Brooks makes jokes about anything. Personally, I found the snow globe stupid. But if you have a problem with it, chances are you really have a problem with PETA and will criticize it no matter what they do.

Simply Pathetic!!!!

What is this world coming to? Animals were put on this earth for one thing...!! It's funny how people have made animals into humans! This is just one of many flaws with Americans!!

It's wrong to judge one and not judge all. PETA...listen up...there are people on national TV killing animals for sport, but you find it inhumane to fight dogs? Priorities people...these people are making billions on killing animals! They are being funded by corps. and those with deep pockets.

I think race had play in the descisions, How is that other people can kill animals and fund it, but when someone else does it they're degraded and there names are slander on Post/Greeting Cards?

There is no difference in these big organizations doing it and Michael Vick doing it!!!!!!

Justice...I beg the differ!!!

Poor Michael

PETA is ignorant, but so is the person that is sad that "poor Michael" will not be spending time with family this holiday or having a decent meal. Do the crime, do the time baby...plain and simple. What if Mike were treated like those dog's. I bet he wouldn't want to be backed up on that rape stand, or hung, or drowned. I know, I know. It's different. He's from the project's. He does not know what it's like to treat an animal right. Poor thing. Enjoy your Christmas Mike, I hope your bro. can support your mama.

peta has gone way too far now!

Just when we think Peta couldn't get any worse, they pull a stunt like this. This is something that we would expect from a small child who doesn't know any better. This takes human dignity to a whole new level. Now come on,Peta haven't you ridiculed this man enough already? This is the lowest your organization can possibly go. I want the Federal Government to come and in and discipline you people for this one. I'm all for the free of speech but when it takes this level, it needs to be stopped immediately. You can call a man a lot of things but when you mess with his dignity, you are messing with the depths of his soul..his very being. No one has the right to mess with that. I want Peta to publicly apologize to this man and his family especially his children who should not be subjected to seeing this done to their father. Enough already Peta Enough!!!!!

You can tell a lot about the

You can tell a lot about the character of a man by the way he treats dogs and his mother. Well....we know about the "dog issue" and I'm not sure who's going to pay Momma Vick's mortgage for the next 2 years. 'Nuff said.

Ceaser fed the christians to

Ceaser fed the christians to the lions and Michael Vick killed dogs for sport. Did Michael need the gambling money to eat on? Did Ceaser need the ticket money? No--but both got a lot of twisted pleasure out of it. Michael Vick had the world on a string but he just lacked basic human compassion and respect (and thought he was above the law.) So sorry he won't get Christmas dinner!

True, PETA folks are rather

True, PETA folks are rather extreme--I'm not one nor wish to become one, but what sets human beings apart from the rest of the animal kingdom is our ability to reason and protect those beings who are less able to protect themselves (children, the disabled, the elderly, animals.) And this in not just the ABILITY to protect--it is our RESPONSIBILITY to protect--and in most cases the law. And while it's true Michael Vick won't have Christmas--he earned that right (or lack of) and it is only fitting that he pays the price for killing and maiming dogs--a species that we are charged with protecting and are not deserving of being murdered in such a horrible way (drowned, electrocuted, shot.) If we make allowances for dogs ("it's OK--they're just dogs") where do we stop? "It's OK to kill Jews--they are dirty and less than us"--sound famaliar? Hitler made his case based on these very principles. Be the best human beings you can possibly be and refuse to accept those individuals that do not subscribe to the highest responsibility of what it means to be human--respect the priviledge and fight to respect those who are less fortunate and incapable of protecting themselves. We domesticated the

Michael Vick and PETA

I tend to agree with the comments I have read. It is a shame that PETA has to resort to this sort of attention getting tactic. It is an example of 2 wrongs NOT making a RIGHT. What Vick did was wrong. PETA only harms its casue with such childish and mean spirited approaches to the casue of animal protection.

Huh

I don't think it is appropriate for PETA to use public ridicule as a form of advertisement and it shouldn't be legal. PETAs tactics are at the same level as the supermarket tabloids and I think it is sad that they feel the need to use childish tactics to promote their "business". Grow up PETA. I guess their leadership hasn't reached puberty. Next time you see a PETA employee tell them what you think about their company.

holiday card

I hope every PETA employee has a merry christmas and are able to forget about the awful way that you have treated Vick. He will not spend the holidays with family, open present, nor have even a decent meal for his christmas.
When people place animals in higher regard than human beings, there is a MAJOR problem.
PETA's employees, comments and advertisements are proof of how low the human race is able to go - rude, ugly, defame characters, cruel and no regard for human feelings.
I LOVE dogs but humans should remain a priority over any animal. i am not saying that Vick was right in the things that he has done. Vick is paying HIGHLY for his mistake.
I was always taught that GOD is the only JUDGE. However, from billboards that PETA has placed in the public they probably think they are GOD.

And yet another reason to NOT support PETA

So PETA asks Vick to help them spread their message about cruelty to animals and HE DOES.....then PETA 'has fun' with their latest ecard using him as a punchline. Nice going PETA.....you just keep confirming my decision to never support your organization. No talent ass-clowns are what your organization is comprised of.

PETA are the ultimate trolls

They are the ultimate trolls. Things are done to get as much free publicity as possible, and obviously it works.

Peta ecard

I think the ecard shows the mentality of the people in Peta and just reinforces the image that several of us have about their usefulness other than to stir up trouble. Why didn't they make an ecard of their own people destroying animals in North Carolina from last year?
