David Fullard is Max Mega.

The 20-year-old Virginia Beach hip-hop artist released his debut EP, “For the Listeners,” this month.

Fullard, a 2005 graduate of Tallwood High School in Virginia Beach, already had part of his stage name picked out: Megatron. He was able to complete the name when he made a discovery at work . “I lost my name tag. So, I put this little sticker on it that said David. When I pulled the sticker off it said Max ,”  revealing the name of a former employee.

With the popularity of the movie “Transformers,” Fullard decided to shorten his name from Max Megatron to Max Mega. As for the EP, the 10 songs can be downloaded for free at www.myspace.com/maxmegatron.

Fullard began work on the EP in July with the help of good friends  and fellow rappers  Ced Hughes and Justin Battle. They also provide backing vocals.

“It was always the plan to release it for free,” Fullard said. “I’m just going to put some songs out there and wait and see what the world has to say.” This is how Fullard answered our questions:

What was the best live show you ever saw?

I have two. The first for me was when Kanye did The NorVa around the time “The College Dropout” came out. The second: Common, last year. It was my birthday. Make that three, Clipse live a couple of months ago with The Roots. I even got to go backstage.

What is your earliest musical memory?

Every Saturday was cleanup day at my house, and Momma would keep the Marvin, Anita, Teddy  and even the Michael on repeat.

What’s your worst performance memory?

I fumbled my verse performing with Ced Hughes at The Boot in Norfolk. I had just written the song earlier that day and didn’t get to memorize it.

If signed to a record deal, how would you spend the advance?

I would fix my credit, buy my mama a house in Virginia Beach  and save the rest for emergencies.

If you could write your own headline, what would it be?
