A second suspect has been arrested in the Nov. 10 shooting death of 1-year-old Ny-Asia Tillmon.
Julian "Ramel" Barksdale, 20, of Virginia Beach turned himself in to police Wednesday night, thinking the only thing he was wanted for was failing to appear in court on a trespassing warrant in November, said Christi Golden, Chesapeake Police spokeswoman.
Barksdale was charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, breaking and entering with intent to murder, three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and use of a mask.
He is the cousin of Shawn Sir Charles Ward, 21, who was arrested three weeks ago in
connection with the home
invasion in South Norfolk where Ny-Asia's grandmother, Mary Arnold, and a man identified only as her uncle were also shot.
The toddler died at a hospital.
Ward faces the same charges as Barksdale. Police still are looking for a third suspect. The men are accused of breaking into Arnold's apartment in the 3700 block of Bainbridge Blvd. in broad daylight and shooting the victims.
Golden said Barksdale told police he did not know he was wanted in connection to the Tillmon shooting. According to police, he has not commented on the shooting or revealed the identity of the third suspect.
Barksdale was identified by police as a suspect several weeks ago, but police did not publish his name or photo because they did not want him to flee, Golden said.
