Two Chesapeake men were killed and three other people remained hospitalized Sunday after a head-on collision between two vehicles in Isle of Wight County late Saturday, State Police said.
Neither the people who were killed nor the person who was most seriously hurt - all riding in the same vehicle - were wearing a seat belt, said Sgt. Michelle Cotten, a State Police spokeswoman.
The other two people, who suffered less severe injuries, were wearing restraints, she said.
The wreck occurred at 11:09 p.m. along Smiths Neck Road, about a half-mile west of U.S. 17, northeast of Carrollton.
Cotten said an eastbound 2004 Acura collided with a westbound 2006 Toyota Tacoma.
The driver of the Acura, identified as James Curtiss Strickler, 22, of the 400 block of Woodland Drive in Chesapeake, was killed.
Also killed was the person riding in the back seat, identified as Daniel Ray Worsley, 24, of the 3000 block of Yellow Pine Crescent in Chesapeake.
The front-seat passenger, identified as Quincy Gilliam, 23, of Smithfield, was listed in serious condition at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News. His address was not released.
There were two people in the Tacoma, identified as Earl McAdams, the driver, and his wife, Catherine.
Cotten said the couple, of the 200 block of Mariner Circle in Smithfield, also were taken to Riverside and are expected to recover from their injuries.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, but Cotten said weather conditions did not appear to have played a role. It was uncertain, however, if speed or alcohol were factors, she said, noting that the passenger who survived in the Acura was under the influence of alcohol.
A State Police crash reconstruction team was called to the scene.
