Former Smithfield workers in N.C. sentenced for fake IDs

Three former workers at Smithfield Foods Inc.'s massive hog slaughterhouse in Tar Heel, N.C., will spend 18 months in prison for using fraudulent documents to get hired.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Raleigh said Tuesday that former employees Abimale Sanaoz-Vasquez, Benito Gutierrez-Lopez and Jose Ramirez-Martinez will be deported after their prison term.

The three were among 28 people arrested during an immigration raid at the plant in August. Fifteen other plant workers are facing charges of being in the country illegally and of using the names and Social Security numbers of U.S. citizens.

Federal authorities said the victims in those cases incurred financial problems because of the additional income reported under their names.

How rough for them, three meals a day free, pumpkin suit to wear, place to sleep.. more than what they had where ever their from. How about just deporting them, giving them 99 years probation and seal the borders so they will never come back. When will our gov't ever learn? Oh, and their employer, make them submit all employees information every 90 days to make sure that they stay in compliance with the law.

Now fine the daylights out the employers and use the money to compensate the LEGAL citizens whose identity was stolen! They have the cash, trust me. Look at the fishing company who was only too happy to immediately pay a 6.9 million dollar fine. If you have 6.9 million laying around to throw at fines, think how much they must have already made off hiring illegals? Here's an idea, outsource our prisons to China or India like we have everything else, let the illegals serve thier time over there instead of here, then let them figure out how to get 'home' when thier sentence is up since they are so adept at showing up here. GRRRRR!!!!
