Genesis Medspa focuses on baby boomers

VIRGINIA BEACH BEACON

Keith and Carolyn Nichols feel they're helping baby boomers stay as young as they can though their work at Genesis Medspa.

Dr. Keith Nichols, who owns Genesis Aesthetic Face and Vein Specialists in Suffolk, opened the Virginia Beach facility in September. Carolyn, a nurse, is the director of spa services. Their Great Neck business is in the space formerly occupied by Atlantic Medspa.

"I was originally in emergency medicine for about 16 years," said Keith Nichols, a Suffolk resident, who also trained in aesthetic medicine. "Then about five years ago, I went into phlebology. I like working with patients to help improve their outlook on life by changing their physical appearance."

The doctor treats varicose veins with a procedure called VNUS Closure, which closes veins rather than surgically removing them. Nichols also offers treatments for problems such as unwanted hair and acne, which can affect any age group. Baby boomers, however, are his personal interest.

"We want people to look as young on the outside as they do feel inside," said Keith Nichols, himself on the youngest end of the baby-boomer generation.

One of Genesis' most popular procedures is pixel skin resurfacing, which smooths wrinkles, improves skin texture and tone, and diminishes or eliminates brown spots.

"We do lots of laser work. We can take care of pigmented lesions and use the laser for rosacea, and hair removal, too," the doctor said.

An entire facial pixel resurfacing costs around $700, and consists of about three to six treatments. The laser treats a portion of the skin at one time. One spot, such as the forehead, can be resurfaced for about $125.

"It's like a nonsurgical face lift, and less downtime than a deep peel - and the laser is more precise," Keuith Nichols said.

Great Neck resident Laurel Bishop had the resurfacing done.

" I was just a little red each time. If you look great you feel better. That is a great thing," she said.

Other services include Perlane, Sculptra, Radiesse and Botox treatments. Genesis Medspa also offers Juvederm and Restylane filler injections, spider veins and VNUS Closure, radiofrequency facelift applications, massage therapy, skin care and makeup sessions, and peels and facials.

Prevention is key, said Carolyn Nichols, and it's important to treat resurfaced skin with the correct products.

"We can do a lot with skin care, but it's important to maintain. We also can soften the effects of time on your face and reverse the damage of sun and time. It just all depends on what you want to do," she said. "It shouldn't be important but people judge you by the way you look, and this makes people feel better about themselves."
