Landmark sells video downloading service

Posted to: Business Landmark Communications

NORFOLK

Landmark Communications Inc., the owner of The Virginian-Pilot, has sold its online video downloading service, TotalVid, to Zipidee, based in San Francisco. Terms were not disclosed.

Karl Quist, former president of TotalVid, said the transaction was not related to Landmark's announcement last week that it might sell all of its assets. "There was just a good fit between the catalog that we had and the business model that Zipidee was pursuing," said Quist, now vice president for business development at Landmark Interactive.

TotalVid focuses on special-interest and instructional videos. Zipidee has moved the operation from Norfolk to California, Quist said. Of the six employees at TotalVid at the time of the sale, two, including Quist, remain with Landmark.
