NASCAR’s Kurt Busch will be riding high in his Beach condo

Add NASCAR driver Kurt Busch to the list of celebrities taking up residence in South Hampton Roads.

New York Mets third baseman David Wright, a star at Chesapeake’s Hickory High, said this week he is trying to buy a Norfolk condominium.

On Friday, a real estate brokerage’s project manager confirmed that Busch and his wife, Eva, have bought a home in Virginia Beach in the state’s tallest high-rise.

The couple purchased a condo in The Westin Virginia Beach Town Center Residences, a community of 120 units built on 20 floors above The Westin Virginia Beach Town Center, said Dianne Gordon of Rose & Womble Realty Co. The firm is handling condo sales for the property, which stands at 508 feet.

Busch will have some high-placed friends for neighbors. Dan Hoffler, chairman of Armada Hoffler and a developer of the Westin, also has bought a condo in the high-rise, Gordon said.

Busch married his wife, the former Eva Bryan of Chesapeake, on Hoffler’s estate on the Eastern Shore two years ago. Hoffler is selling his estate and is asking $41.75 million.

Hoffler and his partners planned to join Busch and race car driver Kyle Petty tonight at The Westin for a fundraiser. Some of the proceeds will go to the Victory Junction Gang Camp in North Carolina, which hosts children with serious illnesses and chronic conditions.

Ninety-six of the condos have been sold, fetching between $350,000 and $5 million, said Gordon and Wendy Halman, a sales executive with Rose & Womble Realty Co.
