VIRGINIA BEACH
Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson, who has made predicting the future an annual tradition, predicts a recession and a major stock market upheaval are on their way for the United States.
Aside from a recession this year, Robertson suggested Wednesday that Americans will be paying much more for gas at the pump as the price of a barrel of oil rises by 50 percent in the coming months.
Specifically, he said oil would reach $150 a barrel - the price hit $100 on Wednesday - with the dollar continuing to lose value in 2008.
"I also believe the Lord was saying by 2009, maybe 2010, there's going to be a major stock market crash," said Robertson, who is a millionaire businessman as well as an evangelical leader.
But don't unload your portfolio just yet. Robertson acknowledged Wednesday that his prophecy of a nuclear terror attack in 2007 failed to unfold.
He also cited information from God when he predicted on a year go that major U.S. cities would be hit by "very serious terrorist attacks" causing "possibly millions" of deaths.
No such catastrophe occurred.
"All I can think is that somehow the people of God prayed and God in his mercy spared us," Robertson said on "The 700 Club," a television show he hosts on the Christian Broadcasting Network, based in Virginia Beach.
"So did I miss it? Possibly," he said of his unrealized prediction. "Or, on the other hand, did God avert it? Possibly. But whatever, it didn't happen, so I think we can all rejoice."
On Wednesday, Robertson, 77, implied that God informed him who will be elected president in November.
"He told me some things about the election, but I'm not going to say, because some old man on "60 Minutes" would make fun of me, so I'm not going to tell you who the winner's going to be," Robertson said, in apparent reference to CBS humorist Andy Rooney, who turns 89 on Jan. 14.
Additionally, "the Lord was saying there's going to be violence and chaos in the world," Robertson said. He cited violence in Kenya and Pakistan, saying "we've just begun to see what's going to happen."
Robertson said he received no divine information about the war in Iraq. In past years, he said, "the Lord told me it would be a disaster; well, it has been a disaster."
In May 2006, Robertson cited God in predicting that "the coasts are going to be lashed by vicious hurricanes this year" and that the Pacific Northwest could see a tsunami.
No hurricanes struck the U.S. coastline in 2006; three tropical storms hit the country.
In January 2004, Robertson said, "I really believe I'm hearing from the Lord it's going to be like a blowout" re-election for President Bush.
Bush won 51 percent of the vote that fall, beating Democratic Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts.

false prophets
When God tells a man what is going to happen and it does not happen he is a false peophet. God is a 100% correct.a prophet who gets his information from God will be a hundred percent correct. Pat Robinson has made many predictions and they have not come true. but he always has an excuse for it doesn't he. pat robinson is a false prophet.
WHY is Pat Robertson newsworthy?
Pat Robertson says that he is a prophet, a descendent of royalty, a patriot, and has the power to heal. I have heard him tell his viewers to touch their tv screens for a miracle.
Pat Robertson is not at all a member of the body of Christ. His opinion of himself is just too high.
I do not understand why anything that comes out of his mouth is newsworthy.
It pains me that his adulterer son Gordon is set now to continue the exploitations and fake holiness, the pay-for-pray scam they call The 700 Club.
I love it! Thanks Pilot
These are the funniest,(and most accurate)comments I have ever read from an article yet. They are better entertainment than the rediculous content of the article(PR & his God-sent predictions)itself. As far as President elect goes,I'm surprised he didn't mention Rudy Giuliani since he publicly endorsed him. I wonder if God told him to?? Thanks VP for printing the ramblings of this delusional lunatic instead of another Vick story. The comic relief obtained from the comments that resulted from it, made for a great stress reliever.
Pat Robertson
Pat Robertson also claimed to be able to leg press 2,000 pounds so consider that in whatever he says. Pat Robertson's life in no way resembles Christ's. His self-aggrandizing and ridiculous prophesies, ramblings and so-called healings are embarrassing and insulting and are demoralizing to those whose faith is genuine and who have reverence for Christ. He has made a mockery of Christianity. He maligns the Gospel. Pat Robertson is a con artist and has made himself wealthy off of faithful and trusting believers and now his fake holyman son Gordon is poised to bilk another generation of gullible faithfuls. I do not understand why the media acknowledges this man at all. It is disgusting that these people who feign holiness, words of knowledge, tongues, and healing for the purpose of bringing in money have any newsworthiness. They are without souls. As a Christian, I find him and the other actors on his tv show gross.
It doesn't get much better than this...
OK. Let’s see. What are the possibilities here? Pat’s mentally ill (delusional) and thinks God is talking to him. God is talking to him and giving him bum advice….does God know and is just fooling around with Pat…. or does God not know. Pat’s just an outright fraud and is in cahoots with Sylvia Browne who has about the same number of predictions come true. Hey, I like that one….Pat R and Sylvia Browne. Wow, sometimes I just crack myself up! Hey, and you Robertson followers….what’s up with you guys. Shame, shame, shame on all of you. Pull you heads out of the sand. One person commented that the VP shouldn’t cover PR. Well, on one hand I can agree…the other of course….hey, it gives us a break from the horrible events happening all over the world. A little comic relief? Oh, well….. And, the beat goes on. I hope all of us out here, and well everywhere, have the best ever new year in 2008. 2008! Dang, where did the time go….. Remember, hell is the absence of logic and skepticism is the path to truth….
Please
Pat, please just stop talking.
more of the same
pat robertson, paul riddick, the "give felons rights" delagate, the judge who slammed those killer juveniles for shooting that lady in front of her kids(umm, that was supposed to cause outrage that a judge would actualy hold someone responsible)..oops...and yes, the wanton censorship of the one or two Pilot almightys who deem what can or cannot be viewed by their readers. The previous comment is dead on, this is the most heavily censored "forum" I've seen. I have carefully crafted numerous comments to ensure they do not violate those vague vague guidelines(would the ACLU approve of that?) Pat Robertson is a bonafide shyster. Plain and simple. And the Pilot reports?? about his dumb comments just like they report about the rest of the racists, idiots, and ill informed so they can sell papers. I hope you all are able to read this comment, as it violated none of the "rules" that are reviewed by....who???
This is, without question,
the most heavily censored Comments section of any online publication I have ever posted to. I would not think that a progressive publication like The Pilot would be so quick to censor.

seriously?
is he for real? I wonder if he can predict his own financial downfall when he's exposed for the fraud he is? His prophecy is sinful since he is not divine and what those students and teachers are going through at Regent Univ. is far from 'God'-like.
Still Here??
Pat's still bribing the Pilot to print his stories? How would he feel if someone decided to say "let's take him out" (NO I DO NOT CONDONE THIS) like he suggested for Hugo Chavez. Oh I forgot, he can't take criticism (remember that Regent student who was kicked out for posting the picture of Pat appearing to give The Bird).
Shysterism at it's Best
So Old Pat, P.T.(There's a Sucker Born-Again every minute)Robertson has made another prediction. Big Deal. Perhaps more Grannys will send him money to help,(in their minds) buy a Stairway to Heaven. Give the guy a break. He's just another Snake Oil Salesman doing what he does best.
Predictions, maybe I am a prophet!
I predict it will rain in 2008.
I predict a Hurricane will cause damage to an Island.
I predict death and destruction in Africa.
I predict suicidal Islamic nut jobs blow up innocent people.
I predict a religious or political leader will be rocked by a scandal.
I predict many people will go hungry and homeless while all the churches have fat bank accounts!
Let's review
He knows who will win the election but isn't saying.
There will be "a major stock market crash" in the next two years but he doesn't say where.
He says "there's going to be violence and chaos in the world."
So how can he be wrong? It's like "predicting" that the weather will change. Looks like he's learned not to try anything specific, considering his dismal track record.
Biblically, a "prophet" is one who speaks the truth, not necessarily about the future. Pat is being a soothsayer, not a prophet. And not a very good one, at that.
sorry
I cut a prophecy short.....lets hope PAT chokes on a blood diamond
I can to be a prophet......
Lets see....where do I start.....ok..here we go...gas prices will rise(oops they already have)...soldiers will be killed in Iraq(that was a tough one to pull out from you no where)....it will snow in the midwest...more diamonds will be carried out of Africa via Robertsons plane(s)....someone in the world will be celebrate a birthday.....a new president will be elected(AND IT WON'T BE YOU PAT OR ONE OF YOUR RELIGIOUS CRACKPOTS....don't you realize its a different world and most of us really do know how to think for ourselves, and we don't need crazy bible thumpers telling us where to spend our money)...sorry, back to the predictions.....there will be fewer jobs....someone will give birth...someone will get an abortion....enrollment will continue to decline at Regent.....Regent will acquire Oral Roberts to use for a tax writeoff to buy more diamond planes....I'm full of predictions just like Pat but I'll hold off on them until they actually happen and then I'll say I told you.....so now that I'm a bonafide prophet like Pat, please send your donations to makemericherandletyourfamilystarve.org...notice it's a non profit web site so you know its for real...one last one....lets hope PAT
God must have lied
God knows all; past, present and future. God would know if he was going to avert said disaster so if he told PR that we were going to be nuked, God lied.
Hmmm, I wonder what the bible says about prophesies that don't
come true.
Deuteronomy 18:21-22
21 You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD ?" 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
I would include what Deuteronomy 18:20 says, but it would likely get me censored. Look it up for yourself.
It would appear that Pat Robertson is a false prophet. He is not allowed to define what constitutes a false prophesy, as God has already provided the definition. That he presumes to do so indicates that he is more than merely a false prophet.
Predicting the future based on what he says God tells him
You have a better chance of winning the Lottery than any of his predictions coming true!
My understanding . . . .
I am far from being a Biblical Scholar, but I do believe that a prophet of God is only a prophet of God if his predictions of what God says are 100% true. So far, Mr. Robertson's predictions fall far short of that statistic.
I do believe there are other Bible verses about those who claim to be prophets of God but who are not. Most of those verses are warnings for us and for those "prophets" to heed and to heed well.
WHY DO YOU BOTHER
Please do not use this man's comments in the paper, he is senile.
Soothsaying?????
I was under the impression that Soothsaying was not a part of or recognized in the Evangelical Christian world! Making predictions (even if you claim they are divine) or being profetic is a part of Metaphysical studies, is that going to be taught at Regent U.?
Many of the "predictions from God" were deductions that any informed person could easily make for them selves.
Why does the Pilot continue to run these stores????
Long past time to stop the 'prophecies'...
"Say to those who prophesy out of their own imagination: 'Hear the word of the LORD! This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!" --Ezekiel 13:2-3
This is news???
Why are his predictions breaking news? I don't believe his middle name is Nostradamus or anything close. His predictions are simply a way to grab attention. Why is the Virginian Pilot falling for it?
God also said it might rain....
Guess I better go buy an umbrella in case it does?
hahahahaha...what a tool.
