Police identify man shot outside video game store in Norfolk

We have the best police department in this area and their job is a thankless one. They cannot be everywhere 24 hours a day. To parents-the saying goes -it takes a village to raise a child-raise your own child and stop blaming everyone else for the poor job you are doing. You cannot blame black on black crime on the police department or city council. Where is the black community and leaders and why are they remaining silent? Don't complain about the police if you are not going to help them. Do something!

Why call this animal a YOUTH? Bet this YOUTH has a criminal history. Lets give this YOUTH another chance and tell him its not his fault. He`s only a YOUTH.

It's the police fault that there are not officers on every corner knowing what people are doing at any given minute right? It's the police fault for witnesses who don't come forward when they saw a crime and can identify a suspect, and because they didn't come forward and the suspect is not arrested, police fault also right ? Where is help from our black leaders and black role models. Where are the black sports figures and hollywood starts ? where are the people the kids look up to ? they are the ones who can help but you don't see them out in the streets trying to reach out, only thing they reach out for is more money. Blame the police and local government, blame the white man for the murders because it's easy. Stop pointing the finger at the wrong people and something might get done.

Have you bothered to look at the crime rates in Britian before and after they did that same thing? Then take a look at Sweden and their crime stats. Little bit of an eye opener.

For some of the posters here, City Council has powerful black voices who are heard in case you miss the news. It can not be an all white council if there are black members unless you're saying they don't do anything for their people. And the police officers and investigators do what they get paid to do and what they are instructed to do. No government or police department can predict when one human plans to injuried or kill another human for what ever reason. Your police department is out numbered, no government can have an officer on every corner as some silly citezens like to request. Officers has to write tickets in an given area because you have some citizens who complain and complain and make phone calls to city hall to have something done. The poor street officers are instructed to write tickets, not because they have nothing else to do. I want you to think about for a minute, some who has this silly notion that it's the white mans fault for black men killing black men then where are the black leaders and role models ? Shouldn't they be coming up with a plan or taking action ?

It is the responsibility of law enforcement officers to serve and protect citizens. Writing tickets is an important part of that responsibility - especially since far more people are killed in car wrecks than are murdered. Obeying traffic laws keeps people safer. Safety inspections are for - you guessed it - safety. Crime prevention in the best patrolled areas pales in comparison to lessons learned in the home. When any juvenile is charged with a crime, I think parents (both of them) should be fully charged right alongside their kid. Stop blaming the troubles of society on schools, the police and ethnicity. It is high time blame was placed where it belongs: on the doorsteps of the homes.

In reference to the comment posted by A1byte.....Why does it always have to be a white black issue. Who cares what color the people are on the city council. They aren't the ones out there killing these people. The statisitics that you mentioned should show not that the city council has any control over what color the murder victims are, but that there is a correlation between who is out there on the streets selling drugs and putting themselves in these situations. Most of these murders aren't random killings. Many of these victims were already engaged in illegal activity and got caught up in the game that they play. If the parents were responsible parents, they would see the signs that their children
are part of the problem because they themselves aren't doing their job of being a good parent.

2 people dead.. Oh my! How is the Norfolk City Council going to fix this? MAYBE the answer isnt there, MAYBE, it in the home, where children are taught responsibility for their actions. There is NOTHING that the City, it's police force, etc, can do to PREVENT some jerk from finding a weapon, (gun, baseball bat, crowbar, etc etc ad nauseum), and hurting/killing someone. That behavior is something that is prevented by teaching MORALS and RESPONSIBILITY for one's actions.

BTW for the frothing at the mouth Gun Control advocates, gun control won't stop this either, it only makes life difficult for law abiding citizens. Millions of crimes are prevented each year by armed law abiding citizens.

How many more people have to die in the City of Norfolk, before someone recognizes that there is a major violent crime problem in the city? I hate to hear about murder and the lost of a life because the ones who took the life, also looses their life. That’s two blacks gone at one time. These are young black people dying in the streets of Norfolk. Not that anyone should be murdered, but what would be the case; in regards to preventive methods, if the people dying in the streets of Norfolk were white? Does the fact that Norfolk has an all white council with the presents of black representatives have anything to do with the lack of concern? This is not to be interpreted as a racist attack on the administration, but just an honest curiosity. The fact of black and white is what it is until there is a change. There has not, to my knowledge, been an average of more than 5 white people killed per year in the past decade, but there has been an average of more than 25 blacks killed in one decade. Have mercy!

Ya see cops at the downtown tunnel checking for bad inspections!

When are we going to hear about more detectives put on the books to solve
real crimes, like breaking and entering and robbery, murders. Stats prove that the majority of illegal guns on the street are legal guns stolen from residences. Come on men in blue get out and fight real crime instead of writing good ole grandma a parking ticket in the wal-mart parking lot.
