Bill allows Claremont residents to drive golf carts on select streets

Posted to: News State Government

Residents of Claremont, jump into those golf carts.

The state Senate unanimously approved HB 1429 today, which allows residents of the Surry County town to drive golf carts on some public roads. The bill was sponsored by Bill Barlow, D-Isle of Wight.

Elderly citizens of the town had requested the change. The legislation makes it the second municipality in Virginia where people can drive golf carts on select public roads. Residents of the village of Saxis on the Eastern shore already enjoy the privilege.
