Bond hearing postponed for suspect in Chesapeake officer's death

Posted to: Chesapeake Crime News Shivers shooting

The bond hearing for the man accused of killing a Chesapeake police officer has been postponed.

The hearing for Ryan Frederick had been scheduled for Monday afternoon. Frederick’s lawyer, James Broccoletti, said Friday that no new date has been scheduled.

Frederick has been charged with first-degree murder in the Jan. 17 shooting of Detective Jarrod Shivers. On Thursday, Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney Paul Ebert was named to prosecute the case, after Chesapeake prosecutors recused themselves.

why is everyone supporting a murder

Ryan is where he belongs. He shot and killed a cop. Why is everyone supporting him? I knew him growing up and he was violent then. I also know of him through work. He delivered to my job and tried being violent towards the person who receives all products there. Coke lied when they said there were no complaints against him because the receiver there has called numerous times and reported him. Coke completely ignored the complaints. Also he is a known drug dealer. It is his word against all the cops that were there that Det Shivers did not announce himself before Ryan shot. So what everyone is saying is that drug dealers are innocent and all the cops on the force are liars. In what world does that make sense?

donations

What's the website for donations?

defense fund page

The person that is currently starting the page is still working on it, he told me he should have the donations site set up and running by the weekend. Please keep checking it and when you notice it's set-up please pass the information on. Thanks for your support.

Defense fund

I checked out the webpage, but it was kind of hard to see because of the background. Please advise on the location for the donations. I know there are people out there that would donate. Maybe send money to the jail as well. I'm sure he would appreciate anything he could get at this point.

More time...

Imagine, more realistically, that you were single and lived alone and had recently had your home burglarized. You're sleeping when you wake up to the sound of someone breaking down your door. You arrive, armed and in fear, in your living room to find someone kicking through your front door. Do you shoot while you can or wait and see if they shoot you first? Personally, I would take my chances and shoot before they made it all the way in.

More Time

Imagine you are in your house at 8:30 in the evening and you hear some loud banging at your door. You get up and go get your gun then go to the door and shoot through the closed door without any knowledge of what or who is on the other side. What if it was your significant other who had who had forgotten their key and was tryng to get your attention or a neighborhood kid playing a trick? This wasn't in the middle of the night, rather the early evening. IF the police weren't so professional why didn't they shoot him or plant evidence? No one would have known. No, they were professional and respectful of the constitution. If it was a para-military operation they would have been in the house and the individual on the ground before he had a chance to get off the sofa. Let the facts come out in court before you point fingers.

New lawyer

From what I read, it was the "New Prosectutor" wanted to postpone the bond hearing. He said he wouldn't be able to get down here so soon. He was going to try and send one of his lackies. But I guess their to busy playing golf. Let this man out of jail. He doesn't need to be there. This is such BS and I feel bad for this kid as I feel is going to be railroaded. Come on, do you really need the prosecutor from the Malvo trial to be here. That just tells me that Ches. is going to do everything they can to make up for their mistake and put a non violent criminal behind bars or death. Does this really make sense? They need to focus on other issues besides this kid.

The real reasons

1. the defense may want more time to gather up their information to give to the court to have a proper bond hearing. The defense is still getting paid whether their client is in jail or out of jail.

and/or

2. The extra time will also give the lawyer from Northern Virginia time to review the case and argue why he should not be released.

Review?

Yes, obviously the CPD is being overly quiet. They have assigned some lackey to review procedures. Another word for review is cover up.
The local news media should start pressing the city of Chesapeake for some explanation of this travesty. Don't count on that though! It would difficult for them to prosecute this young man, and at the same time have a meaningful investigation -- not review-- take place. It will be interesting to see how the recently assigned commonwealth attorney from northern Virginia attacks this case.

consider this

It's my understanding that Mr Frederick's counsel is extremely competent. He may have convinced Mr Frederick that the SAFEST place to be right now is in jail. I'm sure everyone, sheriffs and CPD, has been told that nothing is to "accidently" happen to Mr Frederick. The LACK of sound bites from his counsel is probably indicative of his desire not to further inflame this incident any more than necessary. If Mr Frederick is to get what I feel is "justice", the police are going to have to eat a large plate of "crow" and it's better tolerated in small bites. I'll admit I side with the defendant in this matter, I'm just so glad it wasn't me the CPD came after that night, the results probably would have been similar. I'm hoping the national media eventually picks up on this incident so the "powers that be" understand the microscope they are under.

I found this development

I found this development rather strange. I thought he would be entitled to a bail hearing, no matter how high bail is set.

They're going to find a way to rid themselves of him.

I would be very afraid if I were him. There is no reason at all why this young man should be in jail for murder. The CPD and Chesapeakes judicial system is going to make his life as miserable as possible. If the CPD had anything solid on him, it would be all over the news. Instead, the CPD has said little about the case. What they have made clear by the charges is that they made a terrible mistake that cost one of their detectives his life. Det Shivers supervisor and the judge that issued the warrant on such bogus information should be the ones in jail. We know that the CPD only found a very small amount of pot not enough to justify the breaking down of doors and jack boot raid they pulled on the young man. I don't agree with using pot but I also don't agree with the abuse of police power that is shown in this case. I'd like to know if the warrant was for the house or the garage or both, CPD seems reluctant to release that, I wonder why? CPD and their massive error has cost one of their own his life, a wife her husband, two kids their father and completely ruined the life of a young man that should have only received a ticket.
