Chesapeake company gets Navy dredging deal

CHESAPEAKE

Norfolk Dredging Co., based in Chesapeake, has landed a $6.02 million contract for various maintenance-dredging projects at Mayport Naval Station in Brevard County, Fla.

The work includes dredging for a naval vessel entrance channel, a turning basin and a Navy destroyer slip. The Army Corps of Engineers in Jacksonville selected the company from among three bidders.

Geography Lesson

Editors/writers please note that Mayport Naval Station is due East of
Jacksonville, Florida in the northern most tip of St. John's County.
Brevard County is Southeast of Orlanda where Melbourne and Palm Bay cities are located which are well over 140 miles south of Jacksonville and Mayport Naval Station.
