PORTSMOUTH – Golfers may soon have to pay a little more to hit the city links.
The City Council tonight will consider raising rates at Bide-A-Wee and lengthening the “in season” period at both city golf courses.
If the council adopts the new rates, residents will have to pay $33 to play 18 holes at Bide-A-Wee on a weekend, up from $31.50. Non-residents will see a $2.50 hike to $40 for a full round of weekend play at that course.
At the Links at City Park, greens fees will stay the same, but rates for rental carts and buckets of balls for the driving range will increase slightly.
The city expects to make an additional $50,000 to $60,000 annually for its Golf Fund through the increases.

What a mistake
Please notice the past tense, I "used" to drive to Portsmouth from VB to play this course and always dreaded the 40 minute drive, but enjoyed the course enough to do it, and although it is only a few bucks, it is just another reason to play closer to home. Hope your increase can maintain the same volume of golfers, because you lost one here.
