It may be Super Bowl Sunday, but the decision process goes on for local high school football players.

Today, Ocean Lakes wide receiver Randall Dunn committed to Virginia Tech while Great Bridge lineman Michael Price, who had previously committed to Old Dominion, said he was accepting an offer from Virginia instead.

“They were always my No. 1 choice and they were always leading, but I had to go and compare other places,” the 6-3, 210-pound Dunn said of Virginia Tech, which he picked over offers from many schools, including from Virginia, Connecticut, Penn State and West Virginia.

“It felt like home when I went there. They gave me an opportunity to meet with some of the players and they basically told me it’s like living the life. In Blacksburg, everything evolves around the football team.”

Playing at Virginia Tech will also give Dunn an opportunity to play with his cousin, Maury lineman Vinston Painter.

“We used to talk about playing together before,” Dunn said. “And he was one of the first persons I called.”

And don’t be surprised if Dunn gets some more company today when teammate Marcus Davis is scheduled to make his decision.

Contacted on Sunday, Davis – a 6-5, 225-pound quarterback – said he had made a decision but wouldn’t make it public until Monday.

Many believe he too, will become a Hokie.

Dunn hopes so.

“I told him if he makes a decision to give me a call,” Dunn said. “But he hasn’t told me anything yet.

“But I’m just happy and thankful to be in this opportunity. I truly feel blessed.”

Price, a two-way performer for the Wildcats last season, was an All-Southeastern District and second-team All-Tidewater selection at offensive tackle. The 6-foot-5, 255-pounder earned second-team All-Southeastern District honors at defensive end. He made an official visit to Virginia this weekend.
