Leap-day birthdays: four times sweeter

Call them leapers, leaplings or 29ers, folks born on Feb. 29 have a special reason to celebrate today. We heard from a couple of dozen readers who are having their quadrennial birthdays today. Because we didn’t have space for them all in the Feb. 29 Co-Pilot, we are presenting more of them here. See the next group of posts for their stories. Leap year rules say you are only 4

Most people think that there is a leap year in every year that is divisible by 4. However, that is not entirely correct. There is a leap year in every year that is divisible by four as long as it is not divisible by 400; thus, the year 2000 was not a leap year. As a leap day baby, you should know that, but you'd be surprised how many don't. Just setting the record straight.

Today I turn 20 years old in regular years but 5 years old in leap years. When I was younger I used to always ask my mother why my birthday didn't come every year. I feel very special being born on February 29th because I am usually the first person someone meets who is born on Leap Day. A lot of people ask if i like it or not being that it doesn't come around every year. When there isn't a leap year i usually celebrate it on the 28th of February or the 1st of March. But today I am really excited to celebrate my birthday on the actual date. I have MANY plans and I plan on fulfilling every one of them.
