Cavaliers to retire Singletary's jersey for his final home game

CHARLOTTESVILLE

Sean Singletary already knew his final game at John Paul Jones Arena was going to be emotional, and now it figures to be even more special.

Virginia announced Saturday that Singletary's jersey will be retired in a ceremony before the Cavaliers' regular-season finale tonight against Maryland.

Singletary, a three-time captain, will be honored in ceremonies along with fellow seniors and co-captain Adrian Joseph, Tunji Soroye and Ryan Pettinella.

Long before he knew of the honor, he said the night would be special.

"It'll be an emotional night," he said in a group interview that covered his career and expectations going forward. "I know last year was emotional for me seeing J.R. (Reynolds) and Jason (Cain) go out in a positive way, and the things they did before the game were pretty nice. I'm definitely looking forward to it."

The Cavaliers (14-14, 4-11) went into the weekend in a three-way tie for last place in the ACC.
