NORFOLK

Naro Expanded Cinema in Norfolk will screen the documentary "Nanking" at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. The film is about atrocities committed by Japanese soldiers in China's capital city during World War II, and the actions of a small number of Western residents who gave refuge to about 200,000 Chinese.

Virginia Beach resident Judy Ma Liu, who worked as a production assistant for shooting in Los Angeles, coordinated to have the film screened locally.

The Hampton Roads chapter of the Alliance for Preserving the History of World War II in Asia supports the screenings, because they help increase awareness of the Asia theater of the war, said Norfolk member Ping Tsheng.

Sscreenings are also set for 2:45 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.
