The "Flintstones'' and other thought-provoking comments from Kyle Petty

You just never know what you'll get with Kyle Petty. He can philosophical, whimiscal or just dead-on in his thoughts and observations. I was ready for many things but not discussing the "Flintstones'' when I talked to him recently.

To backtrack for a moment, cach spring for Martinsville weekend (for Virginian-Pilot readers the series runs closer to the Richmond May race), I take three drivers and ask them various questions that you don't typically see asked. In the past, I've had Dale Earnhardt Jr. reveal his worst date experience (date wanting to pick up a friend to go along with them), Jeff Gordon give his best advice at the time ("pre-nup'') and Jamie McMurray once tell me "I swear I've seen an alien.'' Drivers are open, honest and revealing.

This year, I sat down with Kyle Petty, Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson. I asked them more than just about racing. In fact, I asked few questions about racing to any of them although racing crept into the conversation at different times.

Among the questions I asked Petty was: What's a mystery you'd like to know the answer to?''

His reply was this (look to the right side and go down to the third item titled Unsolved Mystery

You have to hear his response. The first five items are from the Petty interview.Take a listen, they're interesting.  If you scroll down on the right side, you can hear clips from my interviews with Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson and there take on some different issues.

Here's the Petty interview where he talks about his experiences, beliefs and thoughts on various topics. Harvick is scheduled to run Saturday with Johnson on Sunday. Looking for more? Here's the full transcript of the interview with some interesting items that didn't make what was printed.

Enjoy.
