Franklin offering free smoke detectors

Posted to: News Virginia

The city’s fire department is looking for residents who need a free smoke detector.

The city received about 600 fire detectors through a grant from the Virginia Department of Health and is taking requests for free installations in area homes, said Kimberly Rideout, a spokeswoman for the city.

Members of the Franklin Fire and Rescue Department have installed 63 detectors in 39 homes since Feb. 15, and 11 homes are waiting to be served, Rideout said.

People who live in the area served by Franklin Fire and Rescue are eligible for the detectors. Call Leslie Pearce at (757) 562-8581 to request one.
