The Great Illinois Corn Flake disappeared from eBay for a while, but fear not, lovers of state-shaped cereal - it's still available.
According to Melissa McIntire, one of the Chesapeake sisters selling the item, the auction site pulled their flake Tuesday because it violated a food policy. So the sisters devised a plan to auction a coupon redeemable for the flake.
"We never intended it to be eaten anyway," Melissa McIntire said Wednesday. "It's the great state of Illinois - why would you eat that?"
Bids reached stratospheric heights Tuesday, going into the $200,000 range. The sisters didn't get too excited, however, figuring most of the bids were jokes. The bidding on the coupon was at $128.50 Wednesday morning, and had climbed to $755 by 5 p.m.
Melissa's 15-year-old sister, Emily, found the flake while eating dry cereal earlier this month. They decided to sell it on eBay, and things went from there. Dozens of related items have popped up on eBay since then, including a spoon, milk, T-shirts and buttons commemorating the flake and other cereal bits said to be shaped like Hawaii, Ireland, India, Virginia and presidential hopeful Barack Obama.
Bidding is set to end Friday.

Lame news is no news.
This is the worst article I have ever read on PilotOnline. By far a waste of time.
On the flip side...who cares enough about a piece of cereal to sell it on ebay? Who would buy it? Apparently there is a market for people with too much time on their hands and no sense of embarrassment.
I am still in awe that some freak is going to pay ANYTHING, much less $128.00 for a single flake of someone else's cereal.
