VIRGINIA BEACH

The students at Chesapeake Bay Academy weren’t too shy to ask Gov. Timothy M. Kaine questions after he read them a story today.

They queried him about gas prices, the origin of the word “read,” and whether the State Police guarding him carry Tasers. Some questions were easier than others.

Supply drives up gas prices, he said. He wasn’t sure where the word “read” comes from, and as for the police detail — “I don’t know what they carry, and I don’t intend to find out!”

Kaine visited the 170-student school to read “I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew” by Dr. Seuss as part of a celebration of Read Across America. The annual event, sponsored by the National Education Association, brings guest stars into schools in March to read a book, often by Dr. Seuss. The academy, a private K-12 school for bright students with learning difficulties, celebrated a week later than most schools.

Flanked by projections of the book pages, Kaine read the book, about a creature who encounters obstacles on his way to a land where there are few problems.

“There I was, completely surrounded by trouble,” Kaine read, then paused. “Did they pick this book especially for me?”

After he finished reading, he also chatted with the students about the moral to the story — that every place has problems.

From Obama to Dr. Suess

After using taxpayer's money traveling to Kansas and Texas where Gov. Kaine was stumping for Barack Obama and probably delivering Obama-style rhetoric, fairy tale speeches, he should feel right at home with Dr. Suess stories. I'm thankful that the children in his audience were concerned about the real issues facing Virginians!

Dr Suess

He shocked me here
He shocked me there
He shocked me till it burned my hair...

Where's my wallet!

Where's my wallet!

Actually, it is true...sort of

My_view, your demand and mine might not have gone up - I drive a compact car - but take a look at all the gas-guzzling minivans, SUVs, and light trucks on the road these days. It seems like every would-be hipster or suburban soccer mom has to own one of these behemoths - it's unthinkable that they drive something that actually emphasizes safety and fuel efficiency over image and "luxury". Even though station wagons and sedans were good enough for our parents, heaven forbid little Destynee or Colton be exposed to the indignity of bench seats and no DVD players in the headrest. Maybe we should raise money for the road projects we need by taxing everyone who buys one of those monstrosities and doesn't actually need it (hint: unless you have 8 kids or live in the mountains, chances are you don't need a Hummer or Armada or Excursion or the like).

Wait, thats not true

Supply-increases the price of gas? My demand did not increase-just the price. I will bet most Americans, will say the same. Can’t wait for the kids to get home and explain that to mom/dad! The price hit 107 today!!! Rich get richer!
