PORTSMOUTH
City officials released sketches last week of a new full-service Holiday Inn that is scheduled to open next year.
Construction on the project will begin later this year once the city approves necessary building permits, Portsmouth's director of economic development, Steven Lynch, said.
The $7 million, five-story hotel, being developed by Olde Towne Hospitality LLC, will be built on almost 4 acres adjacent to Interstate 264 in downtown Portsmouth.
The hotel, which will have 120 rooms, is smaller than the Holiday Inn on Crawford Parkway, which is scheduled to close this fall.
Construction of the new hotel is expected to take 10 months, Lynch said.
As part of the franchise agreement, the project must be completed by April 2009, he said.
