Norfolk council OK's purchase of apartment buildings

Posted to: News Norfolk

NORFOLK

The City Council unanimously agreed Tuesday to buy two blighted apartment buildings on West Little Creek Road near Wards Corner.

The purchases, for $2.3 million, are part of the city's efforts to revitalize the Wards Corner area.

The Wards Corner Task Force recommended that the city acquire the properties about a year ago.

One apartment building will be bought this spring and the other in the summer. Both will be torn down, city officials said.

It is likely the Titustown Recreation Center will use a portion of the property to expand its parking.
