Chesapeake police say they believe the man who robbed a teen boutique March 12 is connected to the Sunday robbery of a children's clothing store in Suffolk.
Suffolk police on Thursday identified the suspect in the armed robbery of Karen's for Kids on N. Main Street. Authorities say he pushed a clerk into a storage area and tied her up with duct tape before making off with money and merchandise. Police secured warrants for Albert Chevelle Thorne, 29, whose last known address was Armstrong Street in Portsmouth.
The warrants charge him with armed robbery, abduction, aggravated assault, grand larceny, larceny with intent to sell or distribute, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
On Thursday afternoon, Chesapeake police were securing warrants for the March 12 robbery of Funky Beat in the 4300 block of Portsmouth Blvd., said Christi Golden, police spokeswoman.
Police said a clerk there was grabbed from behind, choked, shot with a stun gun, dragged into a bathroom and tied up with plastic bags.
Detectives were able to connect a suspect to both robberies, Golden said.
Owners of Funky Beat are offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to a conviction in the robbery there.
Suffolk police were asking for help in finding Thorne, who has outstanding warrants in Norfolk and Portsmouth.
He is described as a black male between 5 feet 4 inches tall and 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing around 146 pounds. Police said he may be driving a kiwi-green Honda CR-V, according to a news release.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Suffolk Detective John McCarley at (757) 514-7942 or Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
