Portsmouth will have another choice for cable television

Posted to: News Portsmouth

For the first time, Portsmouth residents will have a choice in cable television systems. The City Council voted Tuesday to allow Cavalier IP TV LLC to construct and operate a cable system in parts of Portsmouth.

City Attorney Tim Oksman told council members that changes in state and federal laws and regulations meant that for the first time a company besides Cox Communications would be able to provide cable service to the city.

Oksman said the addition of Cavalier's service would provide more financial support for the city's broadcasting system and enhanced communication during emergencies.

Same service from Cavalier?

Let's just say, it would take a LOT of convincing...

Competition

If Cavalier delivers the same services at half the price, would you still continue to use Cox?

Help me out here....

...Cavalier is a re-seller. They don't own any infrastructure...they lease it from Verizon....if your Cavalier service goes bump in the night, they have to call Verizon techs...so, what exactly are they buidling? Cox, on the other hand, has had fiber in our neighborhoods for years and they own their own infrastructure. I think I will stick with cox.

Competition is better for the consumer

It's about time to get some competition. Now get on out to Isle of Wight and Smithfield area!
