After a brief moratorium on new cell phone towers, the City Council agreed Tuesday to let one go up near Laskin Road.
The New Cingular Wireless tower at the Cavalier Golf & Yacht Club is to be 95 feet tall and located near the club’s swimming pool, city documents show.
The plan was pushed off in November to give city staffers time to draft a proposal on how to handle requests for new towers. That policy should soon be brought to the council.
Councilwoman Barbara Henley asked for a halt last fall on approvals until staffers could develop such a policy. She wanted the city to have a standard way to deal with all tower plans.
The city had 10 applications for towers at that point last year, according to planning records. Two years earlier, there were three.

"Has anyone talked to AT&T/Cingular about this? Seems like a pretty populated area to be dead like it is."
Apparently Att/Cingular spoke w/ the city about it and has been denied a tower up until now.
What about Chesapeake Beach
The Chick's Beach area is terrible for cell service, especially AT&T. I currently get no service anywhere north of Shore Drive from west of pleasure house rd to Bayville park. Turns my iPhone into a $400 paperweight. Has anyone talked to AT&T/Cingular about this? Seems like a pretty populated area to be dead like it is.
Needed one there for a long time....
If you've ever been back there and tried to use your phone you'll know why this one was needed.....
Same with the Little Neck tower several years ago..... I used to have to stand on my porch in Little Neck to use my phone.
