CHESAPEAKE
The city is expected to receive a gift of a 14-foot, 5-ton anchor Wednesday morning to grace the foot of the Great Bridge Bridge. A presentation ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the northwest end of the bridge on Battlefield Boulevard.
The anchor, which was cast in 1861, will arrive at its new home by flatbed truck. It will be part of a permanent display being created in the area by the Great Bridge Battlefield and Historic Waterways Foundation.
The anchor will sit across the street from the planned battlefield park and visitor center.

The Village at Great Bridge
Have you seen what is on the property south of the Bridge now!! It looks horrible! I have lived is Great Bridge my entire life.(46 Years) It's time to have some new ideas and new projects. Lets put something in there that will generate some revenue and interest in the area !
Great Bridge Village
This Anchor is a symbol of the Civil War. They get this in place first! Then they will have a reason to have a Visitor Center and a Battlefield Park. Folks this is the first stage for the proposed Great Bridge Village District. This project will consist of 3 to 5 story condos, mixed use districts, more shops and business open 24/7. More traffic, a tourist attraction. This will be on the South side of the bridge. This Great Bridge Village District had it`s first revised meeting on 3-13-08. There will be more town meeting held by the Planning Department on this issue. People need to wake up and get involved with issues that will affect our quality of life. If the South side of the bridge is made in to a tourist attraction with more shops, condos, etc.. Well you fill in the blanks. This area is a traffic night mare at best now!
