Development alliance chief off to Georgia

Posted to: Business

The chief executive of the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance has officially accepted the job of executive director of the Jekyll Island State Park Authority in Georgia.

C. Jones Hooks said Wednesday that May 30 will be his last working day as president and CEO of the Hampton Roads group. Hooks, a Georgia native, will officially step down on June 13 after using up his vacation days.

"At this point in my career, the Jekyll Island authority position offers a tremendous opportunity," Jones wrote Wednesday in his resignation letter.

The Jekyll Island authority has begun a half-billion-dollar effort to revitalize the state-owned island.

Hooks would not disclose his Hampton Roads salary, nor what he will be paid in Georgia. Eric Garvey, a spokesman for the Jekyll Island authority, said Wednesday that he was unable to release what Hooks will be paid.
