NORFOLK

A family of four is homeless this morning after flames swept the manufactured home they were living in in the area of North Camelia Acres.

Jack Goldhorn, a spokesman for Norfolk Fire and Rescue, said the blaze in the 3800 block of Simms Road was reported about midnight. When the first firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.

All the occupants, two adults and two children, fled safely, Goldhorn said this morning. But it took about 30 firefighters a half-hour to bring the flames under control. By then the structure was gutted.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Red Cross is assisting the displaced family, Goldhorn said.

The scene is just off East Little Creek Road, not far from its intesection with Shore Drive.
