Cox High School tabbed a longtime assistant as its new head football coach on Tuesday, naming Bill Stacheslski to replace Steve Allosso.
Stachelski has been an assistant coach and a social studies teacher at Cox since 2000.
“I’m really excited about the opportunity to take over for Steve,” said Stachelski, formerly the Falcons’ defensive coordinator. “But the fact that I didn’t have to leave the community that I lived in was big deal to me.”
Stachelski, 39, played defensive end at Arlington (Mass.) High – the same school Allosso attended. Allosso was Stachelski’s position coach for one season, and for the past seven was Cox’s head coach.
Allosso compiled a 27-43 record, including 3-7 this past year. His best season was 2003, when the Falcons went 7-3 and came close to making the Eastern Region playoffs.
Allosso resigned recently to take the head-coaching job at Minnechaug Regional High School in Wilbraham, Mass.
Allosso “put a lot his time and energy, his blood, sweat and tears into the program,” Stachelski said. “To step in and continue steering the program in the same direction is what my goal is.”
Stachelski said he plans to keep the Falcons’ offense – a variation of the spread – and 4-3 defense in the coming season.
