Goal with less than minute left sends Admirals to a loss on road

Posted to: Admirals Norfolk Sports

Tim Conboy's shot through a screen beat Marc Denis with 50 seconds remaining to lift Albany past Norfolk 2-1 on Wednesday night at the Times Union Center.

Conboy's game-winner spoiled an otherwise solid effort by the veteran Denis, who stopped 24 shots and was named the game's No. 3 star.

The River Rats took the lead at 7:21 of the first period when Nicolas Blanchard scored on a wraparound. Norfolk's Brandon Segal answered late in the second period with his 12th goal of the season off a rebound of a Vladimir Mihalik shot. Segal has five goals in six games.

The Admirals appeared poised to take the lead in the third period when forward/

defenseman Jay Rosehill was awarded a penalty shot for being impeded on a breakaway. Rosehill was unable to connect, however, dropping the Admirals to 2-3 on penalty-shot opportunities this season.

Norfolk was also scoreless in five power-play chances.

The Admirals will complete the 2007-08 season with games Friday at Binghamton and Saturday at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
