Man wanted in Portsmouth surrenders in N.Y.

Posted to: News Portsmouth

A man wanted in connection with a woman's shooting here surrendered to authorities in the lobby of a television station in New York City on Tuesday afternoon.

Terry Lavern Leathers, 59, of the 2100 block of Nashville Ave., was wanted in the April 22 shooting on Scott Street of a woman whom police described as his ex-girlfriend. She was wounded in the neck.

WABC-TV reported on its Web site that Leathers contacted the station by phone. He said he didn't shoot anybody and wanted to surrender. The station said he was "afraid to surrender to local authorities in Portsmouth." He approached security officers in the station's lobby and identified himself.

Leathers is in the custody of New York authorities pending extradition, said Ann Hope, Portsmouth police department spokeswoman. He faces charges including aggravated malicious wounding and an attempt to commit a non-capital offense.

Shows his state of mind

Terry Leathers was afraid to turn himself in to local authorities, so he goes to New York to turn himself in. Hmmm? Didn't they just shoot someone thirty times? Wasn't Diallo shot somewhere in the neighborhood of fifty times? Yeah, that makes sense. That's like if you are afraid of motor vehicles and hire Mayor Holley as a chauffeur.
